Is oil-air lubrication feasible in hazardous fluid corrosion conditions?

In industrial production sites, many critical pieces of equipment are constantly threatened – water immersion, wear from iron oxide scale, and corrosion from harmful chemical fluids. This erosion not only damages the equipment's appearance but also directly impacts core components.
Take a cold rolling mill for strip and sheet metal as an example. During the rolling process, it relies on emulsions for cooling and lubrication. However, these emulsions continuously erode the bearing housings, especially in the vulnerable areas near the roll neck. Over time, the bearing housing seals are prone to failure. Emulsion seeps in, diluting the grease, corroding the bearing raceways, leading to abnormal bearing noise, decreased precision, and in severe cases, equipment shutdown, causing significant production losses. This problem has long plagued many companies.
Faced with such harsh operating conditions, oil-air lubrication offers a reliable solution. When the oil-air lubrication system is connected to the bearing, compressed air carries a small amount of lubricating oil continuously into the bearing housing. The compressed air then evenly overflows from the gaps in the bearing housing, creating a stable positive pressure environment of 0.1–0.3 bar inside.
This positive pressure acts like an invisible protective shield, actively resisting external erosion: preventing water and emulsions from seeping in, blocking impurities such as iron oxide scale from entering, and preventing harmful gases from accumulating inside the bearing housing.
More importantly, oil-air lubrication, while sealing, also provides precise lubrication to the bearing, reducing component wear. Besides strip cold rolling mills, it is also applicable to many other fields such as metallurgy, chemical engineering, and papermaking. For example, reactor bearings in chemical equipment and press roll bearings in papermaking machines can benefit from this technology, avoiding the problems caused by harmful fluids.
