Oil-Air Lubrication Reduces Bearing Temperature and Improves Equipment Reliability

In heavy industrial equipment, bearing temperature control is critical for maintaining stable operation and extending equipment life. Excessive heat can cause lubricant degradation, accelerated wear, and unexpected machine downtime, leading to significant production losses.
An oil-air lubrication system provides an effective solution for high-temperature bearing lubrication, helping industrial equipment maintain lower operating temperatures while improving overall reliability.

Why Bearing Temperature Matters?
Bearings are key components in many types of machinery, including rolling mills, continuous casting machines, conveyors, and heavy industrial equipment. When operating under high speed, heavy load, or high-temperature conditions, traditional lubrication methods may struggle to dissipate heat efficiently.
If bearing temperatures rise too high, lubrication performance deteriorates, friction increases, and components begin to wear prematurely. Effective bearing cooling and lubrication therefore play a crucial role in ensuring long-term equipment performance.
How Oil-Air Lubrication Provides Cooling?
Unlike conventional lubrication methods, oil-air lubrication systems deliver small quantities of lubricant combined with a continuous flow of compressed air. This technology ensures precise lubrication while also supporting efficient heat dissipation.
In an oil-air lubrication system, compressed air acts as a natural cooling medium. After the oil-air mixture reaches the lubrication point, the airflow continues through the bearing housing and carries away heat generated during operation.
This continuous airflow helps prevent temperature buildup and ensures stable lubrication conditions.
Significant Temperature Reduction
One of the most important advantages of oil-air lubrication for bearings is its cooling performance.
In high-temperature industrial environments, such as steel mills or heavy machinery applications, oil-air lubrication can reduce bearing temperatures by approximately 30°C to 150°C. This significant cooling effect helps prevent overheating and protects critical components from thermal damage.
Even in normal operating environments, temperature reductions of 10°C to 40°C are commonly achieved, allowing bearings to remain within an optimal working range and improving lubrication efficiency.
Positive Pressure Sealing Protection
In addition to cooling, oil-air lubrication systems provide an important sealing effect. When compressed air exits the bearing housing, it creates a positive pressure environment of approximately 0.1–0.3 bar inside the housing.
This positive pressure helps prevent contaminants from entering the bearing, including:
- Water and moisture
- Chemical or corrosive fluids
- Harmful gases
- Iron oxide scale and dust
This protective barrier reduces contamination risks and helps maintain clean lubrication conditions.
Improving Equipment Life and Operational Efficiency
By combining precision lubrication, effective cooling, and contamination protection, oil-air lubrication systems significantly improve equipment reliability.
For industries such as steel manufacturing, rolling mills, mining, and heavy machinery, oil-air lubrication has become a preferred industrial lubrication solution for reducing bearing temperature, extending component life, and minimizing equipment downtime.
As industrial equipment continues to operate under demanding conditions, oil-air lubrication technology plays an increasingly important role in improving productivity, reducing maintenance costs, and ensuring long-term equipment stability.
