Oil-Air Lubrication for Wire Rod Mill Rolling Stand Bearings

Rolling stands are core equipment in high-speed wire rod mills. Their bearings support rotating rolls and related transmission components under heavy mechanical loads, high rotational speeds and continuous production conditions.

The reliability of rolling stand bearings directly affects rolling stability, equipment availability and product quality.

Common Lubrication Problems in Rolling Stands

Rolling stand bearings must operate with an appropriate amount of lubricant. Too little lubricant may cause metal-to-metal contact, friction and wear. Too much lubricant may increase heat generation and resistance, especially when the bearing rotates at high speed.

In addition, the rolling stand environment may contain:

  • High temperature;
  • Water and cooling fluid;
  • Iron oxide scale;
  • Dust and other contaminants;
  • Strong vibration and impact loads.

These conditions make lubrication control more difficult.

Advantages of Oil-Air Lubrication

An oil-air lubrication system combines micro-quantity oil delivery with compressed air. The oil is supplied continuously or according to a preset lubrication cycle, while metering components distribute the lubricant to the required bearings.

Compared with uncontrolled manual lubrication, oil-air lubrication can help achieve:

  1. More accurate lubricant dosing;
  2. More stable lubrication performance;
  3. Reduced lubricant waste;
  4. Supporting bearing cooling;
  5. Improved protection against external contamination;
  6. Easier centralized monitoring and maintenance.

Huashun Customized System Design

Huashun develops customized lubrication solutions based on the actual rolling stand configuration. The design may include the oil supply station, pump, oil-air distributors, control valves, pipelines, sensors and PLC control system.

The oil-air supply parameters must be selected according to the bearing structure, speed, load, lubricant viscosity and operating temperature. Therefore, the system should be engineered around the equipment rather than selected only by model or bearing quantity.

For rolling stand bearings, oil-air lubrication can support stable operation and help reduce lubrication-related equipment downtime.
