For workers in the metallurgical and heavy machinery industries, oil and grease stains on clothing are almost unavoidable. Washing these garments in a washing machine can spread the stains to other clothes, while hand-washing may not fully remove the oil. Here are three effective and practical methods to clean lubricating oil and grease quickly:

1. Alcohol Method

  • Apply alcohol directly to the oil-stained area.
  • Gently rub the spot, allowing the alcohol to dissolve and carry away the oil-based residues.
  • As the alcohol evaporates, reapply and repeat the process until the stain is completely removed.
  • This method works well for fresh or small grease spots.

2. Gasoline (Petrol) Method

  • Moisten a clean cloth with gasoline and slowly wipe the oil-stained area.
  • The main oily pigments in the lubricant will gradually dissolve into the gasoline and transfer to the cloth.
  • For stubborn or residual stains, a stronger solvent like carbon tetrachloride can be used to achieve complete cleaning.
  • Note: Use in a well-ventilated area and avoid open flames.

3. Dishwashing Detergent Method

  • Wet the stained area with water first.
  • Apply a generous amount of dishwashing detergent directly to the oil stain.
  • Gently rub the fabric to allow the detergent to dissolve the oily substances.
  • Rinse thoroughly with clean water until all detergent and oil residues are removed.
  • This method is safe, non-toxic, and effective for both fresh and aged grease stains.

By using these methods, even heavy lubricating oil stains can be removed efficiently without damaging the fabric. Regularly treating stains promptly improves the chances of complete removal.
